Moline Porcelain Veneers

Blonde woman wearing a cranberry hat amd smiling, for information on porcelain veneersPorcelain veneers can transform your entire smile or conceal flaws in a single tooth and perfectly match your natural teeth. If you have a checklist for improving your smile, porcelain veneers from Dr. Goebel might be the treatment you need to complete it.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin slivers of custom-made porcelain that precisely fit over the fronts of your teeth. Porcelain mimics the translucence, shade, and gloss of natural teeth, so after Dr. Goebel bonds your veneers, people will only notice your beautiful smile.

Dr. Goebel’s Beautiful Smile Guarantee

When you have your appointment to bond on your new smile, if you’re not excited about how they look, Dr. Goebel will not bond them on. This is his beautiful smile guarantee. However, it is very unlikely that you won’t be excited, because of the care he puts into getting your input with every stage of the process. After talking with you about how you want your teeth to look, he will make a set of provisional veneers in acrylic. Only after he is certain you love how the provisional veneers look will he have them made in porcelain. For more details, see the explanation of the process below.

When Are Porcelain Veneers Used?

Porcelain veneers correct flaws in teeth, including:

  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Gaps
  • Unevenness
  • Misalignment
  • Poor shape
  • Discoloration and stains that teeth bleaching cannot correct

How Do Porcelain Veneers Work?

After removing a tiny amount of tooth enamel, custom-made porcelain veneers are bonded to the fronts of your teeth. A veneer covers the front and sides of your tooth from the gumline to the edge to conceal imperfections.

What Is Dr. Goebel’s Process?

Before treatment begins, Dr. Goebel will perform an oral examination and take x-rays to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. If you are a candidate for porcelain veneers, Dr. Goebel’s process includes the following.

  • Discuss your smile design – Dr. Goebel will listen as you describe your ideal smile, ask about your likes and dislike, and look at any photos you bring as examples of the smile you want.
  • Show you pictures – Looking at our smile design pictures will help you further define your preferences.
  • Take pictures – Pictures of your face, teeth, and smile help create veneers that complement your facial features and personality.
  • Prepare your teeth – If tooth preparation is required for your case, Dr. Goebel will remove a fraction of a millimeter of tooth enamel to prepare your teeth and ensure your veneers fit well at the gumline and do not make your teeth look bulky. Some cases do not require tooth preparation.
  • Take impressions – Using a handheld digital scanner, we will take impressions of your teeth to ensure your veneers fit precisely.
  • Try in provisional veneers – Before our ceramist makes your porcelain veneers, you will wear a set of provisional veneers to decide if the look and feel are what you envisioned. Dr. Goebel will make any changes you want until you love them.

  • Craft your veneers – Our dental ceramist will use your pictures, impressions, and instructions from Dr. Goebel to make your custom porcelain veneers with the shape and color of your provisionals.
  • Try-in porcelain veneers – When your veneers are ready, Dr. Goebel will use a temporary paste to place them on your teeth. If you love them without hesitation, he will bond them to your teeth. Otherwise, he will adjust them or send them back to the ceramist.
  • Bonding – When you love your smile with porcelain veneers, Dr. Goebel will bond them on.

Your smile design will be exact because Dr. Goebel involves you in the design process and lets you try-in the smile before it is final. He will only bond your porcelain veneers to your teeth if you love everything about your new smile.

How Do Veneers and Crowns Compare?

Veneers

  • Cover only the fronts and sides of your teeth
  • Require minimal tooth preparation—a fraction of a millimeter of tooth enamel
  • Used to correct imperfections in the teeth that show when you smile

Crowns

  • Cover the entire tooth from the gumline up
  • Require shaving down all sides of your tooth to ensure the crown covers it
  • Used for any severely decayed, worn, or broken tooth

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Quality veneers that are bonded correctly can last 15 to 20 years or longer if you take good care of them.

How to Care for Porcelain Veneers

Care for your veneers as you would for natural teeth:

  • Brush twice daily
  • Floss daily
  • Avoid biting hard or sharp objects
  • Only schedule exams and dental cleaning with a dentist and hygienist who trained to care for porcelain veneers
